3rd Party Software Compatibility
UNH IT recommends that users relying on these applications postpone the installation of Mac OS X Lion until the manufacturers of these products have released updates.
Microsoft Office 2008
Early adopters are reporting the users of Microsoft Office 2008 are unable to use Microsoft Office 2008 applications, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage.
Microsoft Office 2011
Microsoft Office 2011 runs reasonably well in Lion, even though not certified compatible by Microsoft as of 7/21/2011. There are occasional hang/crash issues with using Outlook 2011 and Mac OS X Lion.
- Office Communicator
Version 13.1.1 has compatibility issues that lead to crashes under Mac OS X 10.7. Microsoft uploaded a patch to their website on 7/26/2011 that brings it to 13.1.2 and, at least so far, has solved all of the issues.
The patch is available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2587147
VPN/ Juniper Network Connect (version 6.x)
Version 6 of the VPN, the version in use at present (8/1/11), has continuing issues with Mac OS X 10.6 as well as 10.7 (Lion). Networking will be deploying an upgraded version in Mid-August, prior to Back-to-School.
The upgraded version is being continually tested and has worked very well for both Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7 versions of the Mac OS.
